Seminars
Carol S. Fitzpatrick is available to give seminars for teachers and parents on the following subjects (for specific information, click on the links):
- Response to Intervention (RTI) – Effective progress-monitoring and reasonable interventions that work
- Beginning with Winning - How to set your students up for success, not failure
- Phonics First - What to look for in a phonics program; how to teach systematically and still make it fun
- Beyond Phonics - “Chunking” – The forgotten step between phonics and fluency
- The Power of Two - Partner Reading – Amazingly easy and successful in helping dyslexics gain fluency
- Dyslexia - “The Invisible Disability” affecting at least 1 out of 6 students.
Total “Response to Intervention” Professional Development Package
Any of the above seminars are excellent half-day inservices (or combine two for a whole day), but the best application of professional development training happens in smaller bites. Carol would prefer to negotiate a total package designed to meet the needs of each individual school. The package would include shorter workshops that happen more often. These workshops would cover the whole “Response to Intervention” process.
A suggested plan:
- August – “Beginning with Winning” and data analysis driving instruction. (This will take a half-day, but a beginning RTI plan will be in place from the first day of school.)
- Early September – Flexible differentiated grouping with complete (and manageable) assessment
- Later September – Research-based interventions that work – the classics and the new ones
- October – “The Power of Two” – paired reading for all classes
- November – “Progress-monitoring 101″ – making it reasonable and practical for daily instruction
Follow-up with individual teachers could be part of the package if desired.
All workshops will include instruction, hands-on activities, and a question and answer session. A simple, short assignment will be given to put new knowledge into practice.
